Lighthouse and boat collage

Now I must admit I’ve been slacking a lot with these blog posts! I intended on making this months ago and, as is always the way, more important tasks kept taking priority. Because of this, these pieces aren’t the freshest in my mind so writing about the process will be a little tricky. I usually try to write about my thought and feeling in the moment, but the moment was so long ago , I haven’t a clue, so I’ll keep the writing the a minimal for this post! Luckily I’ve got lots of process pictures instead. I do remember I made these for a big shop update I was planning and seen as ocean art continues to be very popular, adding a few more the the collection wouldn’t hurt. I wanted to make more art in the style of the pictures below, using the stylised waves as a jumping off point.

I also wanted to use my fancy new handmade paper which was a birthday present… I mean how could I resist! The bubblewrap looking texture was great for creating a frothy wave look and for the rest of the piece I was using my usual collage paper from my own ever growing collection.

I drew a template of the boat as a guide and filled it with lots of rusty dry brush and stippled textures. Letting the gaps on the had made paper show the orange colour benief, was a really effective way to get the look of rust.

The final piece

Time for round two, this time with a light house!

Checking the pieces look good together
